The Swerve Of The Century: Samoa Joe Is NXT Champion Once Again

In my days as a wrestling fan, I have witnessed many shocks and swerves but there hasn’t been a bigger shock and swerve than what happened in the main event of of NXT Takeover: Toronto when Samoa Joe ended Shinsuke Nakamura’s undefeated streak to win and become the first ever two time NXT Champion.

The Muscle Buster that ended Shinsuke’s reign atop NXT

First of all can I just say that this event in Toronto was tremendous. The matches were fantastic from start to finish, the storytelling was incredible, and I think I speak for all of us when I say this Takeover event was one of the best in the history of NXT. It was hard for me to point out a negative in this event even with the shocking ending of the main event between Samoa Joe and Shinsuke Nakamura for the NXT Championship in one brutally hard fought match between both competitors. This match between Joe and Nakamura proved to be better than their first encounter back in Brooklyn and it had all of us at the edge of our seats and at the end of it all, when we thought Shinsuke would continue to reign supreme at the top of NXT, Samoa Joe shocked all of Toronto and all the people at home when he hit the Muscle Buster on the champion and pinned him for the three count to reclaim the NXT Championship.

Nobody predicted that Samoa Joe would win and nobody expected it which is what made the result so shocking. Samoa Joe wasn’t supposed to win. Samoa Joe was supposed to lose, leave NXT, and go to the main roster which is what many (myself included) thought would happen. Hell I was so convinced he would debut the next night at Survivor Series but once he won the NXT Championship, all bets were off. All of our theories flew out the window and that is what made Samoa Joe’s victory at NXT Takeover: Toronto so shocking and that remained after was a broken Shinsuke Nakamura and a few unanswered questions.

.What is next for Shinsuke Nakamura?

Many thought Shinsuke Nakamura would hold the NXT Championship for a very long time and it wouldn’t be hard to see why as he is arguably the best talent in the WWE and many thought that Shinsuke would be held down in NXT as the face of the brand but after losing the title this past Saturday the question everybody is asking is, is Shinsuke getting called up to the main roster? Nakamuura is already main roster ready and he has been since he debuted in NXT but with the lack of star power in NXT, Shinsuke has been the face of the brand but what is next for the King Of Strong Style? Is Nakamura being called up to the main roster soon and should he? And no. He shouldn’t. Look as much as I love Nakamura, he needs to be the face of NXT for at least a year or two much like Finn Balor was and reign supreme in the developmental brand until a new face comes along. Shinsuke is main roster ready but considering he hasn’t been in the brand for that long and there’s a lack of huge star power, Nakamura needs to stay down and let someone who’s been there for much longer than he should’ve been come up. And that person is none other then Samoa Joe which leads me to the biggest question as a result of his championship win.

When will Samoa Joe debut?

The biggest question that is plaguing my mind and so many others, when will Samoa Joe debut? Like I said I was so sold on Joe debuting at Survivor Series by hopefully, HOPEFULLY, staring down Brock Lesnar but that just isn’t what happened. So now the question still remains on when he will debut so how should it happen? Only one thing makes sense and that is having Joe debut at the Royal Rumble and taking out Lesnar. Samoa Joe vs Brock Lesnar needs to happen at WrestleMania and what better way to begin that feud then to have Samoa Joe debut at the Rumble and stare down Brock Lesnar while looking at the WrestleMania sign. Imagine that scenario and imagine a WrestleMania match between the two powerhouses that will make Joe look like a complete star and the future of the WWE. If Joe isn’t going to debut soon, then the Royal Rumble to set up a match with Brock Lesnar at the grandest stage of them all is where and when it needs to happen.

It has been a wild weekend of wrestling and the two biggest shocks came in the main events, one we will not talk about EVER, and Samoa Joe becoming the first ever two time NXT Champion in the biggest swerve in NXT history. I am very excited for the future of Samoa Joe and if he is continuously booked the way he has been, the WWE may just have a huge new star in their hands.
